My children do not like to go to the doctor or the dentist. And, I don't like taking them. They are afraid of the shots and the machines and quite frankly just don't like being poked and prodded or having their teeth cleaned (most adults don't either). So, I appreciate when you are kind to my children and use gentle and playful ways to examine them. I appreciate when you reassure them and praise them for their bravery.
But, I do not appreciate waiting.
I expect to wait in the waiting room and it is not too bad. There are usually enough toys to occupy the children and their anxiety about the reason they are at the doctor. But, please don't make us wait in the exam room. Please do not call my child's name until the doctor is ready. I dread that small exam room with its baron walls, lack of toys and the medical equipment taunting the children......touch me please!
Please don't make us wait in there. With each passing minute, the children become less patient, more anxious and more tempted to play with things they shouldn't.
I know that waiting is inevitable, but please don't make us wait too long and please don't torture us in that exam room.......the waiting is the hardest part.
