I would not describe my household as calm. I have two very active children. But, on the days that I put music on in the background, the house is calmer.
The children are in a better mood, I am in a better mood and everyone is calmer.
Music has influences our limbic system, which is the emotional system of our brains. Through music, we can connect to our emotional state, express feelings and change our mood. But, music has more than just a calming influence. It has developmental benefits for children.
It aids in the development of impulse control and emotional regulation, leading to improved behavior.
It can helps increase attention and focus.
It can enhance learning.
It provides an opportunity for social connection and social development.
So turn on the music and sing like nobody is listening (except for your kids who will love you no matter how out off key you might be!)
